Deciding to launch a micro business from your home in Florida might seem to be a cautious, low-cost option but it’s important to think through the potential impact on other members of your household. Also, don’t forget to tell your FL insurance agency about your plans in case your business operation has implications for home insurance.

One of the most challenging aspects of running a home-based business is maintaining firm boundaries between business and personal life. Before you launch your business, think about some of the dilemmas you might face when working from home

•    Do you intend to establish time boundaries – hours that are devoted to business activities and time that is strictly for family activities? Think about how available you wish to be to your business clients; avoid setting the precedent of being available for calls 24/7 if it would be difficult to maintain that availability when your business grows.
•    Will you have space boundaries – will your working area be a no-go zone for children or other people in your household? Will you take your smart phone to the dinner table and accept business calls during meals?
•    The boundaries between business and leisure are becoming blurred these days.  How will you manage social media like Facebook in your business?

You may not know the answers to these questions (and many others) until you have been working from home for some time, but it’s useful to think about these issues before you launch your business. Talk to your FL insurance agency about the insurance coverage you need to protect your investment in your home-based business.
